Last Friday in the Media Center, Mr. Gavron’s COWNW (College Old World New World) classes held the first annual Agents of Change Festival. For the first time, social studies teacher David Gavron has assigned unique projects to his classes, in which students choose a person, place or object that has had a significant impact in history.
As part of the project, students must dress up as their subject and explain to evaluators present at the festival why they are the “agents of change.” Students are graded on their costumes, knowledge of their subject and the overall presentation by evaluators that include parents, teachers and various administrators. Among these esteemed guests were Mr. Tutwiler and Dr. Burton. This is a wonderful tradition that Mr. Gavron has created; Through the Agents of Change Festival, students learn in a creative way–this should be continued for many school years to come.
Thank you Andrew and Robin for the great pictures and the article. One correction: This was the FIRST Agents of Change Festival. I hope that we are able to do it again next year!
A big thank you to Mrs. D’Agostino for all of the behind the scenes work she did to make this Festival a reality. Mrs. Bladon and WHSPO did a wonderful job with refreshments. Also, thanks to the high school administration and Mr. Delaney for supporting our efforts.
