All the cast and crew are very very excited (or maybe just me…) for the wrap of principal photography of Northman, which is slated for release in September. If you’ll recall, I wrote a short, blatantly self-aggrandizing blurb advertising this film of mine a couple months ago.
Let me refresh your memory. It’s an epic action adventure set in medieval Scandanavia, with a bombastic and brutal take on the Viking civilization, telling the story of a bitter blood feud between a Danish mercenary and two Swedish brothers. As the film progresses, the line between “hero” and “villain” become blurred, leaving a raw and tangled tale that becomes almost like a sporting event; with equally cruel protagonists and antagonists, the audience will have to choose sides.
The film is not, shall we say, for the faint of heart. Nine-year-olds seeing this movie will come out of the theater with beards. And wives. And perhaps even divorces. It deals with mature themes, and has a stark and uncompromising realism that reflects the dangerous and explicit Vikings. For example, in about an hour and ten minutes of running length, there are 19 f-bombs (as well as countless other cussing) and 34 violent deaths. So don’t bring your little brother, Aunt Martha, or Uncle Harry.
As I said before, Northman will be released in September. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing seniors who have invested time, effort, blood, tears, and sweat to this movie and the others: Including but not limited to, Pete Konowski, Ben Boegehold, Sherry Ng, Laine Winokur, Nick Chertavian, James Morgan-Delossa, Carl Sailor, and many more. Some of you aren’t quite done yet, but thanks anyway.
