Will the Celtics repeat last year's success?

Everyone is probably wondering if the Celtics are going to have the same season they had last year. They went from having the worst record in the season of 2006-2007 to winning the Championship the following season. As of now, their record is 9-2, standing first in the Eastern Conference, which indicates they are on their way to repeating last year’s success. However, some people are claiming that the Celtics’ players might become lackadaisical and assume a spot in the playoffs. We are all praying that this will not be the case.

The Celtics kicked off their season with a triumphant win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, 90-85. It was an emotional night as they commemorated their victorious season last year, which brought Captain Paul Pierce to tears. However, this did not affect his time on the court; Pierce led the team with twenty-seven points, three rebounds, four assists, and one steal.

One of the primary strengths of the Celtics is their great defense. Some people view great players as the ones who score the most points, but truly great players are the ones who are able to both defend and score.

Kevin Garnett, along with Paul Pierce are the emotional leaders of the Celts. Garnett is believed to have transformed the team from the 2006-2007 mess to the 2008 Champions. His intensity and stellar defense has become contagious and ultimately spread to the rest of the team. The other names on the team, like Tony Allen, Leon Powe, and Eddie House are not the most widely known throughout Boston; however, they consistently help the team in many ways. All of these great players and the emotional strides made them the team that they were last year, but will they continue to be great this year?

The way things are going, it seems very likely. The Celtics are a real team in that they combine their strengths and feed off one another to reduce their weaknesses. Two years ago they were a team that consisted of individuals trying to boost their own statistics rather than succeed as a team. What is really remarkable is that the Celtics bench is often what helps the Celtics pull through during games.

In my opinion, Paul Pierce is proof of this team’s spirit; last year and this year he has helped the team both offensively and defensively. There is no definite answer regarding the Celtics games this season, but if they continue with their team-spirited attitude and hard work, they will be successful no matter what.
