Ask Vilma: Keeping a secret identity secret

I have a secret identity, similar to you, Superman, and Batman, but I have trouble staying in hiding. How do you stay unknown to the general population?

Needless to say, such a task requires quite a bit of effort. There are always people who make it their life’s work to reveal your secret identity. They should be satisfied that you spend your life fighting for good in a world of evil. Due to these nosey civilians, several steps must be taken to secure your secret. The first and most important one is to make sure no one sees you when you change into your costume. Superman is a fan of changing in phone booths. That works for him, but it is important to find what works for you. When I change into my Vilma costume, I am partial to vending machines. I just slip into one, do a quick-change, grab a snack and then I’m gone. People don’t notice me because I’m so quick and people are generally oblivious to things that don’t concern them. When you are doing your hero-work, you can’t leave behind any hints that will lead to your real identity. For example, if people know in real life that you love gummy bears, you shouldn’t leave some behind in a bus you just saved from falling off a cliff. You also have to be careful about who you confide in. Only tell who you need to and no one else. Lastly, the biggest thing you have to learn about keeping a secret identity is to keep your two identities separate.
