Starting Monday, June 8, senior parking spots will be on sale in the main office at 7:15. Students interested in purchasing a spot need to bring a check made out to Wayland High School for $220, which is $20 more than last year’s cost, to Mrs. Courchine. The school committee increased the fee to augment funding for the school system.
Purchasing the perfect parking spot seems to be a big deal for most juniors. “I’m planning on camping out the night before so I can be first in line on Monday,” said class of 2010 student, Molly Murphy. Students will go to great lengths to get a spot closest to the school and avoid the one tucked away in the back corner of the lot. Junior Sasha Pansovoy said, “It seems like I have some competition. I’m leaving my house at 6:45!”
Getting a “good spot” makes the hike to class from the parking lot less dreadful. “I’m always late to school, so a spot that’s too far away will not work for me,” says another junior who wishes to remain anonymous.
The parking spots will be chosen out of a hat. The best two rows of spots are put in first, and then when they are all taken, the next best rows are put in.
Caution: There will be a mad rush in the office on Monday, so stay clear of juniors on the prowl for a superior parking spot.

I agree with capt. kind of. i don’t think we should have to pay, but having assigned spaces is a good idea. However, i would very much like to know where this money is going.

uhh… it’s like $1.20 a day. there are at LEAST 150-200 spots in the senior lot. then the junior lot is another 150ish. So we’re talking 250-300 parking spots.
Which means the school is pulling in somewhere between $45,000-$65,000 in revenue from. I know that there are a few costs to consider such as snow plowing, but $220 is an exorbitant amount of money. I’d like to know where exactly all that money goes. WSPN: it’s time for one of your special reports. It better not be for big T’s blackberry.

I don’t know why students should have to pay for parking in a crummy lot at a suburban high school. Instead of charging money for a parking spot, the school should instead use its money more carefully, because I don’t believe that a school in a town this wealthy could be under-funded.

I find it very amusing that juniors care so much about spots i mean a spot is a spot i could care less if im in the front or back its all good to me and only ladies and gentlemen who would want to be at the school at 630 just to get a spot quote from an anonymous person
