Spring sports season warms up

Even with all the rain, spring sports have begun. Eleven more teams are looking to have successful seasons, setting their goals high. Tryouts have wrapped up, and the teams have started to practice and prepare for the final season of the school year. Good luck to all the players!

Boys Lacrosse:
There are high hopes for this team. They return with an extremely strong defense that should keep them in most games. There are a few questions as to who will be the goal scorer. However, this team should and hopefully will make a run for states.
First game: 4/3 vs. Springfield Cathedral
Player to watch: Jon Bryant (senior)

Girls Lacrosse:
First-year coach Erica Kluge takes over a program that has a good balance of youth and experience. Kluge has started to implement her personal coaching philosophies, and the team hopes they can start the season strong.
First game: 4/1 vs. Westford Academy
Player to Watch: Melanie Sperling (senior)

Baseball:
This team has a strong core of seniors that should help them through the regular season and maybe into the postseason. With a core of seniors anchoring the infield, the Warriors will look to improve on last year’s record.
First game: 4/8 @ Hopedale
Player to Watch: Mike Trueblood (senior)

Softball:
Hopefully, sometime in the near future the rain will stop and the field will dry up so the softball team can actually practice on its field. However, even without a field, the girls are still practicing in preparation for the tough Dual County League (DCL) schedule.
First game: 4/9 vs. Waltham
Player to Watch: Lynn Moschella (senior)

Boys and Girls Track:
Some may participate in track just to stay in shape, but for others, this is their sport. The various events allow athletes to excel in what they would like, be it sprinting or javelin.
First Meet: Boys and Girls: 4/7 away, against Westford Academy and Lincoln-Sudbury
Players to Watch: Kathryn Washek (senior) and David Villari (junior)

Boys and Girls Crew:
The crew team as a unit is looking to sweep the state championship again this spring. This means winning boys, girls and team overall categories – no easy feat. The team continues to row on Lake Cochituate, rain or shine, determined to meet their goal.
First regatta: Essex and Lowell
Players to Watch: Alexandra Hill (senior) and Kep Edwards (junior)

Boys Volleyball:
This team, composed mostly of seniors, is looking to win and start a tradition for the fairly young program. With experience from last year, they can pull off some victories and have a successful year.
First game: 3/30 vs Needham
Player to Watch: Dennis Kim (senior)

Boys and Girls Tennis:
Another team that is affected by the rainy weather, tennis is conditioning long and hard inside the field house at the moment. Both the boys and girls teams made it to states last year, and both hope to make return trips this spring.
First match: Boys 4/1 @ Boston Latin, Girls 4/14 @ Newton South
Players to Watch: Carrie Hecker (senior) and Alex Marks (senior)
