Field hockey took on two adversaries during Tuesday evening’s game: Weston and multiple sclerosis. The 5:30 p.m. game against Weston was also a fundraiser to fight MS, a disease that interferes with communication between nerve cells in the spinal cord and the brain. The team banded together to arrange the fundraiser because a number of team members have loved ones with the disease.
Wayland started out the game strong, scoring quickly into the first half. However, Weston held the Wayland girls at bay, scoring a point of their own half-way through the game. In the end, the teams tied 1-1, but Wayland won a fight against MS, filling a large donation tin with money for MS research.
Update: The team raised $400 at the game, adding to the $500 they had already raised.
