10 oddities from last week

10 oddities from last week

Here are 10 things that I noticed in the past week that struck me as quite odd…

1. All of a sudden, there is a huge steel framework in the large pit that is the construction site. What’s unusual about it? Well, the fact that the message, “Congratulations, it’s a Boy” is spray painted on the side struck me as odd. Since when do buildings have genders? Who’s the father?

2. Wayland High School students took a survey on the Thursday before Halloween weekend asking about drugs, alcohol, stress and safety. Did the school want to prove that we are less stressed or that we do more drugs?

3. How many people really took it seriously? And even if they did, how many would still have responded the same way three days later, after Halloween weekend?

4. Guess that’s probably why posters with messages such as “Wayland High School students don’t let drugs and alcohol get in their way”  are turning up around every corner. How many kids’ decisions do you think the posters actually influence? As Mr. Page always says, posters aren’t a good marketing strategy.

5. All of a sudden, it’s cold outside, but not cold enough to wear a heavy winter coat. It’s raining, not snowing, and winter sports are about to begin while fall sports are ending. Nature is having a little trouble making decisions.

6. I finally experienced tremors in the history building. They lived up to the hype. Shakes, buzzing, and the loss of any attention you might have been paying. Good stuff.

7. Nostalgic childhood characters were brought back for Halloween this year. Teletubbies, Scooby-doo, N64 characters. What will it be next year?

8. Everyone is sick. It must be all the Halloween candy, right?

9. Early Decision applications due the day after Halloween? Are you kidding me? Either colleges think kids are really on top of things and have had their applications done ages ago, or it’s a strategic way to weed out lackluster last-minute applications. Either way whose brilliant idea was that? They’re really out to get us.

10. Looking ahead to this week: we have Thursday off! Really? And then they’re making us come to school Friday?

It was a busy week. How eventful did you find it? What oddities did you notice?

Hahaha, these certainly are odd, especially the "It's a Boy" frame. It makes me wonder what some people were thinking.
