Senior Show talks, dances, and cross-dresses

As a long-time standing Wayland High School tradition, the Senior Show took to the Little Theater stage on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night. This was the last Senior Show to be performed in the Little Theater.

This year the conditions of the senior show were different because they were much more restrictive than those of years past. At the same time, the seniors of 2011 put on a great performance that always had the audience laughing at the right times.

The play began with a video clip of the seniors, and although it was cute and funny, it felt out of place. The real show kicked off with a half-dozen senior boys dancing to Single Ladies by Beyonce. After the dance, a few skits followed, including one titled The Talk.

Everyone in the audience knows what “the talk” is, but what was unexpected was the audience interaction. With parents. The actors brought two parents chosen from the audience onstage, and as the actors continued to say their lines, the parents read advice off of cue cards.

In all honesty, I was surprised that there wasn’t any cross-dressing before the intermission. From the way that the guys dressed in Single Ladies, it was already half-way there. But in the co-ed dance, I couldn’t see a single male on the stage with shorts over his knees.

The play ended with another dance, to the song Club Can’t Handle Me. One homeroom would come on and dance, and the next would do the same dance until everyone had gone. It showed that even as seniors leave Wayland High School each year, they will always have something to connect them together.

To say that there were no slow moments would be a lie, but they were necessary to maintain some form of a plot within each skit. The play had everything any production has every had. From singing to lip-syncing, innuendos, and exaggerated accents, this Senior Show really did have it all.

This was a really bad review and interpretation of 2011's Senior Show. There were mentions of only a few skits, and the reviewer obviously wasn't paying attention to the show.

Brilliant performances like Telephone, Camp Muskrat, and the Four Chord Song were funny, entertaining, and very original.

We saved the show for all future generations by having a nice clean show. Weingartner has helped every senior show so don't you dare put any blame on him. If anything, he helped make it more funny. Hopefully the next generations will not bring the senior show back to the way it was before we cleaned it. (cough cough* ignorant kids from 2012* cough cough)

This senior show pretty much saved the fate of senior show. If we hadn't listened to administration there probably wouldn't be a senior show next year. You're welcome class of 2012!

i liked this senior show better to be honest…. i think making fun of underclassmen is only funny for the people doing it. that's pretty true. and it's only funny for so long… i liked this senior show because it actually had jokes. not just inside jokes.

Let's hope next senior show is much less restrictive. The fact that weingartner directed it, and all made it much less funny. Student run shows in the past were so much funnier just because the STUDENTS understand what other students find funny. Also, the fact that underclassmen could not be poked fun at was so overprotective. In past shows students were always made fun of, and really, what actually was the issue with that. Grow up, have tougher skin, geez. Why can't we just leave the show to the students. please just let 2012 have their own show with no involvement from WFA.

Not all humor involves making others feel bad about themselves. If you get the same restrictions (judging by the way they gave us all the punishments classes for the past 10+ years deserved but avoided, you will, and then some), you have to deal with it like we did.

Contrary to what you stated… WFA was not what placed the restrictions on our show. In fact, WFA and Mr. Weingartner are the only reason we actually HAD a senior show. Until early February, the administration refused to set a date for it on the calendar because the show was essentially terminated. Administration made the decision to cut the show after an accumulation of events that were neither school appropriate, nor funny… Weingartner helped up petition to get the show back, and helped up fit the requirements while still having a funny show. As a head EBoard member, I sold tickets and- despite what you may think- most people in the audience were NOT current members of WHS and would not even understand the harsh, inside "jokes" of making fun of others. Think that show would have been any fun for them?

Just so you know, Mr. Weingartner was the one who brought the strip tease to the senior show… that is all…
