Saturday night, the Wayland boys soccer team took to the field at rainy Concord Carlisle High School in the 5th annual Kicks for Cancer fundraiser.

The warriors wore pink as they defeated the Acton-Boxborough Colonials 2-1.

The game was close throughout the first half until Andres Pascual-Leone scored a goal for Wayland in the 29th minute. Pascual-Leone scored off of a goalie deflection to give the Warriors a 1-0 advantage which they took into halftime.

As the second half started, the game became a defensive showdown. Wayland goalie, junior Matt Edwards, made crucial saves in both the 49th and 70th minutes to preserve the lead for the warriors.

In the 71st minute, the tides turned when AB scored on a free kick. Wayland bounced back as the Warriors scored again in the 76th minute.

Senior Carson Hart tapped the ball passed the AB keeper after a free kick by senior defenseman Andrew Herstine.

Tensions were high for the final minutes of the game, but the warriors held onto their lead, winning 2-1.
