The Amnesty International Coffeehouse is being held from seven to nine o’ clock in the Commons this Friday, featuring many local musicians and entertainers. A $5 donation is required upon entry.

Senior Katrina Kelly organized the event. “I think coffeehouse is going to be great this year,” she said. “We have some returning favorite acts, like Sound Sedation, the Muses, the Madrigals and some great new ones that I’m really excited for.”

Sound Sedation will kick off the event, followed by appearances from the Muses, Madrigals, Matt Cooper, Mr. Walsh, and Mike Gordon, among others.

“My one concern is that we’ll go over on time this year — we have a lot of people who want to perform, but we’re really not supposed to go far past 9 pm,” said Kelly.

New this year will be the addition of a raffle for an iTunes gift card and iPod speakers.

All proceeds from the event go to Amnesty International, a world-wide non-profit organization dedicated to guaranteeing human rights.

There will be numerous petitions for people to sign at the Coffeehouse related to human rights, including a call upon the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) in Egypt to stop the use of excessive force against protesters and cease trying civilians in military courts.
