Warrior Weekly: Fall season wraps up

As the fall season comes to a close, join Harry as he talks about the Warrior teams going to playoffs and gives updates on the golf and crew teams.

Earlier this week, we found out which fall teams will be playing in the playoffs this year. Representing Wayland we have the girls soccer and field hockey teams. Football also has a chance to make the playoffs, but they have a few more determining games to play this year.

Field hockey made it into the playoffs on the last game of their regular season with a 0-0 tie against Bedford. If the Warriors had lost the game, they would not have made the playoffs. Nice job ladies!

The girls soccer team had the best turnaround between their 2011 and 2012 fall seasons out of any of the fall sports teams. Last year they were 4-11-3 and only scored 16 goals in 18 games. They truly exceeded all expectations this year and had a great season. Hopefully they can continue their success this year into the playoffs.

One team I haven’t talked about much this year is Wayland-Weston Crew. Two weeks ago, the team raced in the annual Head of the Charles Regatta and did a great job! Congratulations to them for their success in this famous race that draws rowers from all around the world.

Another sport I don’t talk much about is golf. Congratulations to George Mead who will be competing in the MIAA DIII state championship. Nice job George!

And of course, nice job to all the fall sports teams whose seasons are over. I know all of you worked really hard in practices and games this year.

Last weekend, the Patriots played in London. There were many things wrong with this event — don’t get me started. It was three minutes into the game, and the Patriots’ secondary gave up a huge play touchdown. Shocking.

Celtics started their season on Tuesday, and I am cautiously optimistic.

San Francisco Giants kicked butt in the World Series; good for them.

Don’t forget to check Warrior Scores for all of the latest playoff scores!

Because I am in the mood, I will give two quotes this week and both are from my favorite movie of all time: “The Sandlot.”

“Remember kid, there’s heroes and there’s legends. Heroes get remembered, but legends never die. Follow your heart kid, and you’ll never go wrong.” -Babe Ruth

“This pop isn’t workin’, Benny! I’m bakin’ like a toasted cheese-it! It’s so hot here!” -Ham Porter
