Best of the MetroWest: Crumbs Bake Shop

Ally Toto is on a mission to find the best shops, restaurants, events and other entertainment hubs in the MetroWest area. On her third stop, Ally visited Crumbs Bake Shop, located in the Natick Mall.

“Made by hand, handled with love, baked with joy.” Crumbs Bake Shop describes their treats with this warm and fuzzy statement.

Just a few weeks ago, Crumbs opened at the Natick Mall on the second floor. As soon as I heard they had opened, I made it a priority to visit. They are the largest cupcake retailer in the USA and have amazing cupcakes.

My friend and I recently visited Crumbs to try the cupcakes, and upon walking in were greeted with an employee offering samples, and the sweet smell of cupcakes. I tried the cookie dough cupcake sample, which was sweet with cookie dough flavoring. The texture of the cake was somewhat dry, but it was still tasty.

Inside, there is a “build your own cupcake” station where you can choose your cake flavor, type of frosting and toppings. I thought that aspect of the store was unique, and people are sure to have fun with it! You can also choose the size of your cupcake from three different choices: taste (meant for one person), signature (meant for two people), and colossal (meant for 6 to 8 people). I chose to get the peanut butter cup cupcake because I love Reeses. My friend got the devil’s food cake, and we both got the taste size.

The cupcakes had an ample amount of frosting, and the frosting was sweet and creamy. The devil’s food cake and peanut butter cup cupcake both featured a chocolate cake base, but the peanut butter cup cupcake was slightly dry in texture. The highlight of the peanut butter cup cupcake was definitely the Reese’s Cup garnish.

Crumbs also offers themed cupcakes, and when I visited they were featuring a Thanksgiving theme.

Crumbs also offers a wide variety of other baked goods such as brownies, donuts, pies, scones, pastries and many other delicious treats. I will be back to try more for sure! The menu is extensive. Dairy free treats are also offered, and they even sell Starbucks coffee there to fill your caffeine fix.

The cupcakes are sold at an affordable price: $2.95 for the taste size, and $3.95 for the signature size.

Overall, I was impressed by Crumbs Bake Shop. The cupcakes were good, and the people working at the store were friendly. There were many people waiting for a cupcake when I visited, but the line moved very quickly. I think this store is going to attract many shoppers, because who would pass up a cupcake?

If you’re looking for something to satisfy your sweet tooth at a good price, with a wide variety of treats, Crumbs Bake Shop is for you.
