“Tommy” to premier on Wednesday, May 1

WHSTE will premier its latest spring musical "Tommy" this Wednesday on the main stage.

On Wednesday, May 1, Wayland High School Theater Ensemble (WHSTE) will be premiering its spring musical, The Who’s “Tommy.” The production will begin at 7:30 p.m. at WHS on the main stage and is scheduled to run for an hour and forty-five minutes. There will be additional showings at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of the week.

“Tommy” is a rock-opera about a young boy who witnesses his father murder another man. Through this traumatic event, he becomes blind, deaf and speechless. As he grows older, his parents seek to find what is wrong with their son but fail to do so.

The cast, as well as Richard Weingartner, director of the musical, are excited about the upcoming performances.

“The audience seeing it is the most exciting thing in the world. You don’t do it for each other, you do it for the audience coming in,”  Weingartner said.

Tickets will be sold in the commons next week for a price of eight dollars for students and 12 dollars for adults.
Additional information such as the cast list, history of the musical and crew can be found at WHSTE.com.
