Wayland Residents to Celebrate 375th anniversary

width="263"
From June 15 to 16, Wayland residents will celebrate Wayland's 375th anniversary.
Saturday, June 15, residents will celebrate Wayland’s 375th anniversary. An opening ceremony at the North Cemetery at 9 a.m. will kick off the event. Historical walking tours, exhibits featured by the Wayland Historical Society and a presentation by the Sudbury Militia at the Grout-Heard House will follow the opening ceremony at 1:00 p.m.

From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m., the Moody Street Circus will be hosting five shows at the athletic fields behind Wayland Middle School. A carnival featuring games, magicians and clowns will be located adjacent to the circus rings. Admission for circus shows is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Game tickets for the carnival are $1 each. Tickets are being sold in advance online and at Donelan’s, Russell’s Garden Center or the Wayland Depot.

Saturday’s events will wrap up with a barn dance and bonfire at 43 Old Connecticut Path. Suggested donations for the dance and bonfire are $10 per person.

On Sunday, events will start with the second annual 3Mile Challenge at 7:45 a.m. and the fifth annual WaylandOneMileSwim challenge starting at 9:45 a.m. The event is free of charge to spectators, but there is a $75 fee for participants of the OneMile challenge and $125 charge for participants of the 3Mile Challenge. Registration for both swims are online. Registration fees will benefit the Wayland Community Pool.

From 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Dudley Pond Association will be hosting an ice cream social at Wayland’s Mansion Beach on Dudley Pond, featuring music by Roger Wiegan’s Diamond Jubilee Carousel.

The Wayland 375 Committee is also looking for volunteers. Available volunteer positions include running ticket booth sales, helping run carnival games and selling Wayland 375 merchandise. You can sign up here or contact Pam Bonaguide at [email protected].
