The Dubtown Beat: Summer tunes

DubtownBeat1

Hello everyone! Welcome to Dubtown Beat, your WHS stop for everything music. My name is Jared Goldberg, I’m a senior here, and I will be delivering your tunes this year along with my friend Jameson Hunt, a junior. Every week we will be discussing awesome music for all of you to check out.

This summer has been great for music lovers. Artists from all different genres released great music that is definitely worth a listen. Let’s start with a local musician, WHS’s own Mr. Walsh. His band Barricades released their first full length album this summer, called “With Perfect Aim.” This album offers great upbeat pop-rock, with Walsh killing it on lead vocals. You can stream and purchase “With Perfect Aim” here:

A more well-known artist, Kanye West, also came out with a new album this past June. The rapper’s sixth solo album, called “Yeezus,” was welcomed with great sales and universal acclaim. The album shows West experimenting with new techno-based sounds, making it a truly unique listen. You can listen and buy “Yeezus” on iTunes here:

The summer’s up and coming artist is another rapper who made a big debut album. His name is Chance The Rapper, and his summer mixtape “Acid Rap” is awesome. Chance’s unique rapping style and the awesome selection of production on this album make it a real hit. You can download “Acid Rap” on Chance’s website:

For the more refined music taste, neo hip-hop jazz trio BADBADNOTGOOD released a new single over the summer. The song is called “Hedron,” and it displays the band’s unique jazz style which includes pounding drums and smooth bass and keys. You can get the song on the band’s official website:

And finally, I will leave you with some feel good music from a man who has taken the summer by storm. Pharrell Williams dominated the summer. He was featured in the two biggest hits of the summer, “Get Lucky” and “Blurred Lines,” and even produced the latter. However, there are two more songs from Williams, which he also composed, from the movie “Despicable Me 2” that are really upbeat and happy songs. The two songs are called “Happy” and “Just A Cloud Away,” and they are sure to brighten your day! Check out Pharrell’s hidden gems here:

That’s all for now. Check back next week for some more great music!
