The Ally Way: How to have the best fall

width="470"
This week, blogger Ally Toto tells all how to have the best fall ever.
Fall is in full swing in New England, and it’s time to celebrate! As the weather gets colder, it’s tempting to engage in hibernation mode, but fall has so many exciting things to offer. Here are some top fall activities to make sure you get to enjoy before winter comes around.

1. Take a nature walk
Wayland has some beautiful trails where you can enjoy the crisp weather and the fall foliage. Greenways Conservation Area, located across from St. Anne’s church, boasts expansive fields and woodland trails and even an old pet cemetery. Off of Pelham Island road is Heard Farm, where there are apple trees, fields and trails. Both of these trails lie on the Sudbury River. From a small dirt parking lot off of Rice Road, you can access Hamlen Woods, which offers forest, wetland trails and views of beaver dams.

2. Visit Salem, MA
With Halloween approaching, Salem transforms into spooky central. From haunted houses to ghost tours to the Salem Witch Museum, there is something spooky for everyone to enjoy. Not to mention, there are a variety of excellent restaurants to grab a quick bite. A hidden gem to try (my personal favorite) is 3 Potato 4, a local potato fries company that makes the best organic baked fries accompanied with signature dipping sauces. Before you leave Salem, be sure to get your fortune read by a psychic!

3. Make (and eat) fall food
My family and I love cooking and baking, so here are a few of our favorite fall recipes:
Pumpkin Muffins
Apple Sauce
Butternut Squash Lasagna
Mulled Cider

4. Tailgate a Warriors football game
Bond with your classmates and enjoy some burgers and dogs as you support our football team. Go Warriors!

5. Carve a pumpkin
All you really need is a knife, a pumpkin, a spoon and a bowl, and you can create a masterpiece. Simply cut the top off, scoop out the pulp and seeds into a bowl, and you’re ready to start carving! If you want to fully utilize your pumpkin, you can roast the seeds with a little butter and salt for a snack. Once you finish, place a candle inside the pumpkin and place the top back on.

6. Go apple picking
This fall classic is a must-do. Honey Pot Hill Orchard, about 20 minutes away in Stow, is my personal favorite place to pick apples. Not only is there apple picking, but you can also enjoy a hay-ride, the hedge maze and the farm. Don’t forget to try a delicious apple cider donut for only $.80 or grab a caramel apple before you leave.

7. Have a bonfire
A bonfire is the best way to stay warm and have a good time with friends and family in the cool weather. Roast a few marshmallows while you’re at it!

8. Watch a scary movie
Whether it’s “Ghostbusters”, “The Exorcist” or “Halloweentown High,” a spooky movie is a fall must-do!

9. Buy a big sweater
A cozy sweater that you can curl up in on those stressful homework nights is a fall necessity. Check out Savers or the Salvation army for a cool second-time-around sweater or Target or Walmart for a cheap yet chic sweater. If you’re looking for a higher end option, head to Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters or browse the mall.

10. Make a photo album (not on Facebook)
Yes, a real one. Document all your fun fall experiences in printed form and have fun looking through the pictures for years to come. If you want to get really creative, try making a scrapbook. Now go out and have a fall worth remembering!
