Scrambled: Chocolate Oreo Truffles

With holiday break coming up, Anna talks about a dessert she discovered while working at camp.

During the holiday season, one of my favorite things to do is bake. On those freezing cold winter days, I make some hot chocolate, turn on Christmas carols and make delicious, chocolatey desserts. What could be better?

Every year I try to find something new that I can make for my friends and family. This year, while trying to think of an idea, something I made this summer at camp popped into my head.

For two months this past summer, I worked as a counselor-in-training in Maine, and during the entire month of July all it ever did was rain, rain, rain. So, this meant that the counselors had to find activities for the campers to do inside. What’s an immediate camper favorite? Baking.

While trying to think of a quick, easy recipe that we could try out, one thing we came up with was chocolate oreo truffles. One of my friends had made them before, and she raved about them. She said they were rich and delicious, and no baking was required. So, we decided to give it a try!

They were an immediate hit, and now, ever since I’ve been back from camp, I’ve been wanting to make them again. This holiday season gave me a good excuse.

Here are the ingredients you’ll need:

1 package of Oreo cookies
1 8-oz block of cream cheese
12 oz of Hershey’s milk chocolate

1. Mash the Oreo cookies until they become a powder, and then mix in the cream cheese with your hands until the ingredients are smooth.
2. Melt the chocolate until it’s smooth (I find it easiest to use the microwave and check every 30 seconds to make sure it’s not burned.)
3. Roll the cream cheese mixture into balls with 1-inch diameters, and dip them in the melted chocolate until they are completely covered.
4. Place the truffles on a cookie sheet covered in wax paper. Place them in the fridge for about 15 minutes or until the chocolate is completely hardened.
5. Remove the truffles from the wax paper and enjoy!

Happy holidays everyone!
