This Warrior Weekly has been a little rough for me to write because on Monday night, the girls’ soccer team was knocked out of tournament by Lynnfield. For me, it means the end of soccer, the sport I have played the longest, and I’m devastated. Sports are a funny thing, giving you joy during sad times, family when you aren’t looking for one and overall, just helping you grow as a person.

For me, it was fitting to end my career at Lynnfield High School because that’s where it all began for me. My freshman year, I decided not to play soccer, but I missed it too much and came back for sophomore year. Before the season started, I went to team camp and goalie camp at Lynnfield with my teammates. At these camps, I met some really great girls who play on the Lynnfield team. Although Lynnfield isn’t in our league, we play them every year. It’s a weird relationship we have where we are friends, but as soon as the game starts, we are opponents. I love that. There is no other team that I would have wanted to play my last game against, but I am going to miss soccer.

For all you underclassmen out there, don’t take any of these experiences for granted. You will only have four seasons of any respective sport, so make the most of it. Enjoy every season, because each one is unique. Most of all don’t forget the lessons you have learned. I know soccer has helped me mature as a person, and for that I am forever grateful.

I know a lot of people around the school are experiencing a similar post-fall season depression because it was a rough first week of tournament for Wayland. On Friday, girls’ field hockey lost to Lynnfield 2-1, which knocked them out of tournament. The team was made up of 13 seniors, and they played a phenomenal game but fell short. Lynnfield was able to secure the game winning goal with less than a minute left sealing the fate of both teams. Great season, girls!

Later on Friday, football lost their game to Arlington 37-29. The boys started slow and Arlington was able to secure an early lead. Although the boys fought to the end, they were not able to regain the lead. Coach P stated that he was proud of the boys for fighting until the end.

There is one team still in it, and that is boys’ soccer. With an impressive record this season, the boys were able to secure a first round bye. They will be playing the winner of Pentucket and Snowden, on Thursday at 5 p.m. on our home turf. Good luck, boys!
