Athlete of the Week: Robert Jones

In the photo above, senior Robert Jones runs the 55m dash this past winter. Jones recently broke the previous Wayland High School record for this event. ““I love indoor track because it is the most natural sport,” Jones said.

Name: Robert Jones

Grade: Senior

Sport: Indoor Track

Achievements: This past winter, Jones shattered the long standing school record for 55m dash with a time of 6.56 seconds and was the Massachusetts state runner up in the event. Jones was a DCL All-Star, an EMass D3 All-Star, a member of the 2015 Massachusetts indoor track Super Team, as well as a 2015 daily news all-star and a first team All-New England.

Favorite memory: Jones’ favorite track memory was breaking the school record at the state championship meet.

Quote: “I love indoor track because it is the most natural sport. There is no ball or hoop, just your body. It is a pure sport; [it’s] who can get from point A to point B the fastest. I also love how it is an individualistic sport and you will go as far as you can bring yourself.”
