Winter Week Schedule

ALL DAY ARCADE in the Annex: Dance, Dance revolution + many more video games

1st Block

  • Wayland to Waveland: Mr. D’s Room (A presentation by local students and adults who have gone down to Wayland’s sister city Waveland, which was struck by Hurricane Katrina. Waveland’s Mayor Tommy Longo visited Wayland in October I and he expressed his deep and heartfelt appreciation to Wayland for its response to Waveland’s enormous needs.)
  • Amnesty International Fair Trade Workshop (A workshop, to simulate how different countries have/use different resourceS. Groups will break into teams that represent different countries. Those teams then use their resources to meet certain goals, and try to make the most money. Afterwards there will be a discussion on fair trade and how it works and what this workshop means in the real world.)

2nd Block

  • Westbom’s Band: LT
  • Kirsten Walker: L1

3rd Block

  • Any Rakich’s Movie, Tears of God: LT
  • Ms. Rainoff leads Meditation: Choral Room
  • Local Wayland Director Bill Haney’s movie The Price of Sugar: L1

4th Block

  • A Capella Concert: LT

5th Block

  • Best buddies: Folding Door Area
  • Those Guys: L1 (A Student Band, Pete Knowski & others, will be playing in Ll for open ears.)
  • Traces of the Trade: LT (For the Sophomore Class / The story of a woman who discovers her family history links to slavery in New England. It is showing at Sundance in a few weeks.)

6th Block

  • PB & J Club: Teachers’ Lounge (Make sandwiches for the homeless with the Peanut butter and jelly club)
  • Ms. Mizoguchi’s Presentation on Japanese Internment Camps: L1 (Come learn about the Japanese Internment Camps during the war)
  • Traces of the Trade: LT

A Day, Thursday, January 31st

1st Block

  • Accident Report: TBA (A stage reading of the effects on others when a person dies in an accident involving drinking and driving.)
  • GSA President Sam Lentz: ME13 (Will be hosting a slide show and discussion about homophobia. Bring students to the folding door area for an interesting discussion.)
  • Barbara Holtz: L1 (A speaker who talks about how to be a friend to someone with an illness.)

2nd Block

  • GSA Presenters: Choral
  • Yellow Dress: LT, Juniors (One person play, about rape, for juniors and seniors.)
  • Barbara Holtz: Folding Door Area
  • Opera Masterclass: L1 (Opera performance by professionals for 15 minutes+ mini lessons with students.)

3rd Block

  • Dave Retalic (Ghost Hunter): LT (Haunted Happenings Paranormal Lead Investigator: GHOST HUNTER!)
  • GSA Presenters: Choral
  • Yellow Dress: LT, Seniors
  • Barbara Holtz: Folding Door Area
  • Von Rhor Teaches Belly Dancing: Commons Annex (Will teach belly dancing in the Annex to adventurous classes.)

4th Block

  • Singled Out: LT (Senior game show where underclassmen try to win a date with a senior.)

5th Block

  • Muses: TBD (All female singing a cappella group will perform a variety of songs.)
  • Mid-Life Crisis (Parents’ Band): LT (Local parent’s band will be jamming in the little theater.)
  • Michael Tougias, author of “Fatal Forecast: An Incredible True Tale of Disaster and Survival at Sea”: L1 (Tells the story of Gloucester fishing boats that faced “The Perfect Storm” 10 years before the famous Perfect Storm. It focuses particularly on the survival skills of former Wayland graduate and resident, Ernie Hazard.)
  • Kristen Febre on Eating Disorders: Folding Door Area (Speaker who talks about eating disorders, and how they affect people.)
  • Dave Ryan’s Amnesty International Slideshow: TBA (Dave will be talking about the genocide in Darfur and will be showing a slide show along with his presentation.)

6th Block

  • PB & J Club: Teachers’ Lounge
  • Salsa Taught by Mrs. Levin: Commons Annex (Taught by a local Wayland parent, she will show classes how to salsa.)
  • Emerson Movement Piece: LT (Directed by Mr. Weingartner)
  • The Probable Cause: L1 (Wind down the day with some musical students.)

B Day, Friday, February 1st

1st Block

  • Madrigals and Muses: L1 (Two a cappella groups join for one musical block.)
  • Kids to Kids: Folding Door Area (A presentation about what the organization Kids to kids is, who they are, and what their mission is.)

2nd Block

  • Celtics Owner Steve Pagliuca: LT (The Celtics owner will talk to audiences about the team, and his personal experiences.)
  • Helper Monkeys: L1 (Speakers will talk about the use of helper monkeys in people’s lives, and will bring a monkey in for the audience.)
  • Amnesty International Fair Trade Workshop: Folding Door Area

3rd Block

  • Poetry Slam: LT (Poets will beat out some words for audiences during third and fourth block in the little theater.)
  • T-Tones: TBA (All male a cappella group will perform some songs for attentive audiences.)
  • Juggling Club: FH (Want to learn to juggle? Come to the field house third block!)
  • Professor Robin Fleming, author of “Osteoarchaeology: When the dead speak”: L1

4th Block

  • Poetry Slam: LT
  • Mr. Frio’s Student Band: L1 (Mr. Frio’s former student will be performing, with his band mates.)

5th Block

  • Adam Ezra: LT (Acoustic musician and an amazing singer will be performing in the little theater.)
  • Cristina Ross: L1 (A speaker who talks about starting up an all girl’s school in Afghanistan.)

6th Block

  • Dance 360: FH (Come wrap up winter week with an entertaining dance off in the field house.)
