WSPN’s Sophia Verma sits down with three WHS guidance counselors, Sara Bodi, Ben Buffa and Tina Calderon to asks them how they help seniors going into the next chapter of their lives. The three counselors talked about various resources, navigating financial aid, essay writing tips and ways to cope with stress and anxiety about the future. “It’s just making yourself more available to answer questions and making sure everybody feels like they understand the process,” WHS counselor Sara Bodi said.

Spirit Week takes place during the week of Thanksgiving break each year. The three-day event is put together by the WHS Student Council to provide fun in the form of games, decorations and events for students. The week kicked off with Color Blast, where students decorated the hallways in their class color. Shortly after, other after-school events took place throughout the week like the annual Spike ball Tournament and A cappella concert. To end Spirit Week, students participated in a day of games and activities on Wednesday, Nov. 22 before Thanksgiving recess began.

Wayland High School Theater Ensemble (WHSTE) will perform their annual fall play, “SpongeBob Musical,” on Nov. 16, Nov. 17 and Nov. 18. It’s going to be an incredibly entertaining musical, WHSTE director Aidan OHara said. It was on Broadway five or six years ago and its unique [because] each song is written by a different music performer. Theres [songs] by Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Panic at the Disco!, the Plain White Ts, Lady Antebellum– all of these pop stars contributed a song and it took shape as a Broadway show that is fun for adults and kids. It has all of the different kinds of humor.

On Oct. 3, the auto body shop in the Cochituate Plaza caught on fire, causing significant smoke damage to Liberty’s. “We lost our lives,” owner Shery Maksimous said. “The business is like our home [since] we’re not from here. My husband and I have fought to get a good life for us and our four kids. When [the fire] started, it [hurt us because] our whole family’s [sacrifices] were in the store. My kids grew up there.”
