Why does a student paper need advertisements?

Running a high quality publication such as WSPN is a costly operation. WSPN only receives a small stipend from Wayland High School and must find other means with which to cover expenses. WSPN seeks to attain advertisers that will be relevant to its readers. WSPN does not allow advertisers to dictate content or site design.

How do I know this site isn’t just some propaganda machine run by the administration?

WSPN was created to serve as a voice for the students of Wayland High School. WSPN is a student-run, open public forum. All content decisions are made by student editors and does not need to be approved by the administration. For more information about WSPNs first amendment rights check out its policies.

Why was my comment never posted?

Comments are not published for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, there is a short turnaround time between comment submission and approval by the WSPN Executive Board. Additionally, if a comment does not adhere to the WSPN Comment Policy it will not be published.

Can I buy a picture on your site?

WSPN does not sell pictures because all content on WSPN is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported license. This means that its readers can use its content as long as the work is properly attributed to WSPN.

I can’t find a story on your site. What do you suggest?

If you have tried the search form in the top right corner and cannot find a story you may also try searching in the archives. If you still cannot find something, contact us.

I want to start my own website at my school. How?

Before you can begin your site you will need a domain name and a server host. You will then need a content management system (CMS) such as WordPress, Joomla, or Drupal. There are many additional resources available to students starting their own online newspaper. Organizations such as JEA Digital Media, HSJ.org, and School Newspapers Online all have tools, services, and information to help students starting their own website.
