Rain causes delays, closes main roads in Wayland

Route 20 is slowly starting to open after being closed since Monday. Severe rain has caused major flooding in many areas in town, and has been causing delays for many students during their morning commute. “My parents are making me leave the house at 6:30,” said junior Meredith Riley.

MassHighway workers on the scene said they couldn’t say when the intersection of Rt. 126 and Rt. 20 would be fully pumped out. Flooding of the Sudbury River near Pellem Island Road also closed a number of sections in the notorious flood zone.

Workers re-opened sections of Rt. 20 by Plain Road on Wednesday, and have restored partial access at the Rt. 126 and Rt. 20 intersection in Wayland Town Center.

Stay with WSPN for coverage of the flooding in town.
