Politipress: Welcome to Politipress

Welcome to Politipress your new place to find weekly updates on all things politics. With the presidential election approaching, I will be your guide through all the crazy twists and turns, giving my view on the political world. This year is important because there is a presidential election–something that only comes around every four years. It seems that we have stumbled upon the most dramatic election yet with two polar opposite candidates that only share two things in common: their hatred for one another and the people’s dislike for them.

With such a crazy political year ahead, it is important that everyone gets involved. As of now, our future can go two different directions. Getting active in the election, sharing opinions, debating issues and voting are things we must do now more than ever. Although I can’t vote, I can help you with the first three actions. Hopefully by talking through issues and analyzing our political situation I can help you understand this political craziness.

Let’s get started.

This week, the thing everyone is talking about is perhaps the oddest bromance ever conceived: Trump and Putin.

We all know Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump loves to have his ego stroked, and Russian President Vladimir Putin did just that. It has been speculated that Putin thinks Trump is easy to manipulate. He thinks Trump can be a pushover. Somehow, Trump is going with Putin’s lead. In NBC’s Commander-In-Chief Forum, Trump said, “but certainly in that system [Putin’s] been a leader, far more than our president has been a leader.”

I don’t know about you, but that makes me uneasy.

Trump actually said that the president of Russia, who is responsible for creating a totalitarian government in his country, is a better leader than Barack Obama.

I don’t understand this move on Trump’s part. Russia is a classic American enemy — many of our important freedoms are suppressed in Russia like the freedom of press, a fair judiciary system, and the ability to marry who you please. Putin is not a great friend of America. He has openly offended our government and country. As someone who thinks of himself as “all American”, Trump’s praise of the Russian leader is not patriotic.

Although Trump has shown himself to be a master at manipulating his campaign, this bromance seems to be a step in the wrong direction.

On the democratic side, the doctor is in.

Secretary Hillary Clinton was diagnosed with Pneumonia last Friday and I can see the smiles on the Republicans’ faces all the way from my desk. This diagnosis follows the widespread speculation from many of her opponents that Clinton does not have the stamina or strength to be president. Of course, just after her health comes in question, Clinton comes down with pneumonia, and although this sickness seems to be nothing special, her opponents are going to run with this. Just wait.

On a different note, both Trump and Clinton decided not to campaign on the anniversary of the September 11th attacks this past Sunday. Both candidates attended a service at the World Trade Center to pay their respects. This is an admirable act by both of them. For one day, politics played nice.

That’s all I have to say for this week, and I am glad you are joining me we explore this year’s politics. I hope I can get you thinking about our election year. After all, this will be an unpredictable election and I can’t wait for you to buckle up and join me on this ride.
