Awards in band, choral, drama, orchestra, and visual arts are historically given out to student musicians and artists each June, and despite the COVID-19 pandemic, this year will be no exception. This awards ceremony would have taken place this month, so we figured a virtual indicator would be our best option this semester, fine arts teacher Amy OConnell said.

The seniors of the WHS band gathered separately from their homes to play Sir Edward Elgars Pomp and Circumstance In doing so, they found a new way to make music together amidst the pandemic.

The Wayland Holiday Shoppe just celebrated its 32nd anniversary in town. Beginning in the late 1980s, this event began when two Wayland residents proposed the idea to residents coming into the Council on Aging (COA), a program providing volunteer opportunities. The Shoppe hosts over 200 elementary school shoppers who are paired with student volunteers. “Children just beam as they carry out their beautiful gift bags lined with tissue or wrapped boxes, Director of the COA Julie Secord said.

Boys varsity lacrosse captain Michael Lampert cradles the ball as an opposing player attempts to steal the ball. He runs while using his size to his advantage, looking for an opening to throw the ball for a play. “I would say my biggest challenge has been people doubting my size,” Lampert said. “I have overcome this by doing extra workouts to show people that I can use my size to my advantage.”
