A Wayland resident will dress up as a polar bear and enter the Wayland High School grounds at 7:45 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 6. Sabine von Mering will play the bear and coordinated with English teacher and Green Team adviser Sara Snow on the project. The two also worked with Wayland parent Michael Delman, who is the father of sophomore Eliya Howard-Delman.
Von Mering, Snow and Delman aim to raise awareness in a humorous way for the Boston climate strike on Sept. 20, when millions of citizens will kick off a week of climate actions across Massachusetts at the City Hall Plaza. The organizers of the strike argue that society has just 11 more years to stave off the climate crisis and that the strike will help further that cause.
Below is the Sept. 20 climate strike schedule according to the Facebook event:
10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Community Events at City Hall Plaza – art activities, partner organization tabling, sign-making, community mural / art wall
11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
