In WSPN's newest series called Athlete of the Week, an accomplished athlete is highlighted each week. This week's athlete is senior Cole Elias, who just finished up his last season on the Wayland wrestling team.
With the mens college basketball tournament fast approaching, WSPNs Duncan Stephenson gives you some tips and tricks to fill out a great march madness bracket, along with a couple underrated and overrated teams.

It’s that time of year again. Around the country, millions of people are scrambling to fill out their bracket and predict who will win it all. It is vital you know as much about the teams who will be competing as you can, as well as some tips and tricks to make sure you produce the best, most accurate bracket possible. Here are some Do’s and Don’ts to follow when filling out your bracket, along with three potential Cinderella teams, and three teams who are overrated.

The boys’ alpine ski team finished their season recently by winning the Dual County League. According to senior captain Aaron Goldstein, this was a good ending to a “great season.”

Senior Nick Morgan broke a Wayland High School hockey record by scoring his 120th point during a game against Marlborough on February 18. The previous record of 119 points was held by Mark Shepard, who graduated in 1973.

Wayland Wrestling has had a very successful season, winning 25 of their 26 regular season matches. “[They are] Fearless. Absolutely fearless. I mean that. Fearless because they have confidence in their ability has a team and as a group, head coach Sean Chase said.

Wrestling team finishes season strong

This winter, one of Wayland High School’s most successful athletic programs enjoyed yet another winning season, losing only one meet and finishing with an overall record of 25-1. The team won the DCL championship along with sectionals behind the leadership of captains Michael Connell, Cole Elias, Jared Thompson and Charlie Tillett.

Winter sports come to a close

Several winter sports teams, including boys' hockey, the alpine ski team and wrestling team, finished the season strongly. The boys' hockey team advanced far into the state tournament, and both the wrestling and alpine ski team won the Dual County League.

The Wayland Boosters Association held it's own version of National Signing Day, a day where athletes sign their college acceptance letters. Seniors committed to play on college sport teams were honored in the Commons last Thursday by parents, coaches and teammates.
