President Biden outlines new goals for the federal Cancer Moonshot program in a speech made in Boston last Monday. This initiative is dedicated to decreasing cancer deaths by 50% over the next 25 years. “I’m setting a long-term goal for the Cancer Moonshot to rally America and ingenuity that we can engage, like we did to reach the moon, that actually cures cancers… once and for all,” President Biden said.

The Class of 2025s semi-formal will be held on Oct. 29. Class of 2025 officers, executive board and teacher advisors have been in the process of planning since Oct. 2021. We have high expectations, especially since we have such a nice venue, Class of 2025 Secretary Armaan Chaudhry said. We should have good music, food, tablecloths and everything like that.

Class of 2023 WayCo players lean against the fence at the Cochituate fields watching their teammates play. This summer marked the 15th season of WayCo softball. Even since I’ve joined, I’ve seen the spectator turnout and social media presence grow a ton, 2020 WHS graduate Jack Brown said.
WayCo returns for its 15th summer
Throughout the summer, many different camps and activities utilize the Wayland High School campus. Its amenities, including the Wayland Community Pool and sports fields, made it a popular and convenient location for the Wayland Recreation Department to host Summer Adventure and flag football camp while school wasn’t in session.

The girls lacrosse players cheer on their teammates from the sidelines during the game. This season, many WHS sport teams have experienced success in the early stages of playoff season and are moving forward into the next rounds of the MIAA tournament.

Wayland and Westford Academy collectively participated in race workshops during the week of May 11 due to a racist incident at a girls basketball game back in January. “We did not have a goal of solving the issue, but we hope some students will realize that taunting at games is not acceptable,” Athletic Director Heath Rollins said.

I’m always trying to improve and get faster, Gleason said. Now that I’m going to Bates College I want to make sure that when I get there the next fall that I’m in shape and ready to go.

Senior Lucas Pralle emerges from the water to take a breath during his 100 meter butterfly event at states. Pralle came in first place at states in his event. It feels amazing to be a part of a team that has performed as well as we have, Pralle said. Everyone puts in the work in practice and our coaches work tirelessly to train and guide us to be the best swimmers we can be.

Freshman Annie McQuilkin takes a foul shot at a girls varsity basketball game against Bedford. McQuilkin has been passionate about playing basketball since elementary school. I started playing basketball in third grade, right off the bat, I just loved the sport, McQuilkin said. I was always practicing all the time.
