Join WSPN’s Ryan Chase and Staff Reporter Maddie Zajac as they delve into the musical life of sophomore Ben Hammond. Hammond plays several instruments, including the viola, piano, ukulele and guitar. Hammond reveals that his love of music started because of his family. Hammond’s family travels to Block Island, Rhode Island every summer, and Hammond vividly recalls his uncle playing guitar while on vacation, sparking Hammond’s musical interest. In this WSPN video, Hammond discusses his history with music, beginning with him learning to play the guitar and viola at 8 years old, and later learning to play the ukulele, piano and other styles of guitar. Hammond began by playing in the Loker Elementary School orchestra, and is now a member of Wayland High School’s Honors Sinfonia Orchestra. He has also started his own band called “Vagabond.”
