Sports brief: Playoff quick hits

On Wednesday, June 5, Assistant Athletic Director, Erin Ryan, sent an email informing WHS about the upcoming playoff games for WHS athletes.

On Wednesday, June 5, Assistant Athletic Director, Erin Ryan, sent an email informing WHS about the upcoming playoff games for WHS athletes.

Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) tournaments are in full swing and multiple WHS teams are advancing. On Wednesday, June 5, Assistant Athletic Director, Erin Ryan, sent an email informing WHS about the upcoming playoff games for WHS athletes.

Girls Lacrosse: On Monday, June 3, the No. 4 ranked girls varsity lacrosse team beat Notre Dame Academy Worcester in a shutout victory with a final score of 18-0 in the round of 32. The team is looking to make it to the state finals as they did last year. The team will host No. 13 Dover-Sherborn today, June 5, at 4 p.m.. In order to attend, tickets must be purchased via GoFan.

Boys Tennis: The No. 4 ranked boys tennis team defeated Scituate 5-0, punching their ticket to the Elite 8. They will host No. 12 Hopkinton today, June 5 at 4 p.m.. The team previously beat Hopkinton in the regular season 5-0. Last year, Wayland won the MIAA Division III state finals and are looking to repeat their title. However, this year, boys tennis moved up to Division II.

Girls Tennis: The girls tennis team also advanced to the Elite 8, after defeating Minnechaug 3-2 on Tuesday, June 4. The team will travel to Westborough to face the No. 3 Rangers today, June 5 at 3:30 p.m..

Volleyball: Volleyball also continued the winning trend of the spring sports teams. The team defeated No. 19 Lynn Classical 3-0 and advanced to the Elite 8 on Monday, June 3. The date and time of the next match is to be determined.
