With the changing of seasons, the trends change too, and this year’s 2024-2025 winter season has brought many different trends that we have been loving.
Big fur coats
The staple clothing piece of the season this year has been big fur coats. These chic coats have been around since the 1940s and have since been a recurring trend. These coats can elevate any outfit and can be dressed up or dressed down – either way, you’re going to look very cool wearing a coat like this. Some of these coats have hoods while others don’t, some are cropped while others are long and some come in shades of white and nude while others are brown and black. All in all, there is a huge selection, and we promise you that whichever you choose will quickly become your favorite piece for the winter.
Sheer long sleeves
A trend that we’ve been seeing all over TikTok and Pinterest has been sheer long sleeves with a cute bralette underneath. Talk about chic but still classy; this look has been a fan favorite for many. Since we have been moving away from the “crop top” look, people have been gravitating towards tops that are longer on the torso. A cute, unique choice are see-through or slightly sheer tops, which still show a little bit of skin but with the pop of a cute bra underneath–it’s the perfect look for a night out.
Skinny jeans
Whether you’re happy or upset about it, skinny jeans are slowly but surely coming back. We have been so obsessed with the baggy-jean or flared-jean look that we have never looked back at skinny-jeans. However, now that it’s back, it’s not the ripped high waisted skinny jeans that we saw all over social media in the late 2010s-2020, it’s much more of a sleek look. Now, especially since we’re still in the winter season, we often see these jeans paired with knee-high boots. The knee-high boots cover basically half of the jeans, so we’re not getting the full blown skinny jean phase back, but it’s definitely creeping itself back into the fashion world.
Zig zag headbands
Although headbands have always been a timeless accessory, the specific zig-zig style headband has recently emerged. These hairpieces are an iconic staple from ‘90s fashion as they give a similar effect to using tiny butterfly clips to pull back the top of your hair, another huge ‘90s trend. The zig zag shape acts to comb the hair out of your face while simultaneously pushing it up, adding volume. This trend not only elevates an outfit with a pop of black or tortoise shell in your hair, but it also is the perfect combination of a slick-back and a blow-out, which are the two trendiest hairstyles of the decade so far.
Ruffles
A new style that we’ve noticed has been receiving a lot of traction lately is ‘Stockholm Style.’ As you can infer from the name, ‘Stockholm Style’ is inspired by the clothing of many girls from the capital of Sweden. This aesthetic is broad because it is based on the fashion of the city, meaning that different pieces come in and out of trend based on the daily outfits of girls in Stockholm. One thing that is a staple for the style is ruffles on skirts, tops, sweaters. It has been very popular this fall to also pair two ruffled pieces together, sometimes of the same color, to create a cohesive and hyper feminine look. What differentiates this from the “Preppy” or “Coquette” aesthetics is that these ruffled pieces are almost always neutral. This is closer to “Boho Chic,” for the earthy tones and shabby ruffles, which was in Pinterest’s trend predictions for 2025.
Studs and studded embroidery
Speaking of the trend predictions for 2025, “Rock Chic” inspired looks have also been spotted on Pinterest recently, and are speculated to become one of the biggest trends of the new year. So far, the most popular aspect is studs or studded embroidery. Last summer, due to the increased interest in country music, studded cowgirl boots and jeans started to make a small comeback. Now, in a new way, studs are found on leather or suede boots, leather bottoms (pants or skirts), belts or even embroidered into sheer tops and tunics as seen on Free People’s newest arrivals. We are expecting studs are only just surfacing, and will become more mainstream as we head into spring.
