This month’s artist of the month is sophomore Eva Chausse. Growing up, Chausse was surrounded by a family of artists, which is what sparked her interest in creating art.
When did you start doing art?
“I started getting into creating art around sixth grade, although, I’ve always been really creative. I started really focusing on getting better around eighth grade.”
Since you started, has your art style changed since then?
“Yeah definitely. I really love graphite and charcoal drawings. I think they are the medium I’m best at, and [when I first started], I mostly used paint.”
Would you say that’s your favorite style or just the one you’re best at? If it’s not your favorite, then what style is your favorite?
“I would say it’s my favorite. I love seeing other peoples paintings and sculptures, but I find drawing with charcoal and graphite to be my favorite because it’s really relaxing, and you have a lot of freedom with it.”
How long does each piece of art take you?
“In art classes, we usually take one to two weeks, but if I’m doing it on my own, I would say a couple of hours or maybe one to two days.”
Which art classes at WHS have you taken?
“I’ve taken Art 1 and Drawing. This year, I’m taking Art 2, and I planned to also take advanced drawing, but I had to drop the class, so Art 2 would stay in my schedule.”
Where do you find your inspiration for your art?
“My whole family is really creative and since I was younger, I was always surrounded by my brother’s and cousin’s art, and it really inspired me to be just like them.”
What was your favorite piece of art you’ve ever made?
“I’m not quite sure if I have a favorite, but I drew a portrait of me as a baby, and it’s definitely one of my favorites.”
Why do you like art?
“I love art because you can put an image from your mind onto a piece of paper, and I find it really fun especially when you get better and better after each piece. I love feeling proud of my art and learning new techniques to create new pieces.”
