On Saturday, June 14, the Class of 2026’s E-Board hosted a benefit concert featuring a Chinese yoyo performance from juniors Russell Wong and Sebastian Chung, along with music from Guitar Club and Vagabond. The concert was held inside the WHS auditorium, lasting from 7 p.m. to around 9 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.. Tickets were sold for $10 each at the entrance, and during intermission, there were a variety of drinks and savory and sweet snacks available for purchase.
The night started with a performance from the Chinese yoyo group with Wong and Chung swinging their yo-yos and diabolo sticks through the air in various tricks and tosses.
“I really just got started [doing the Chinese yo-yo] because I saw the older kids yo-yoing, and it looked fun,” Wong said.
The concert’s next group of performers was Guitar Club, featuring students from the recent graduating Class of 2025. The members included seniors drummer Devin Smith, guitarist Sully Nguyen, vocalist Alex Irwin, junior Ojyo Cook and sophomore Brennen Smith. The band played a total of five songs.
The final performance was from Vagabond, a three man band consisting of juniors Atticus DeGrenier as a bass-guitarist and vocalist, guitarist and vocalist Ben Hammond and drummer Ori Kohl. The band played a set of five songs until intermission. After the intermission, the band continued for eight more songs, ending with “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana and inviting the audience to the front to form a mosh pit.
