On Wednesday, Sept. 10, during an event at Utah Valley University, conservative media personality Charlie Kirk was speaking to around 3,000 college students when he was fatally shot. Being an ally with Kirk, President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk’s death through a social media post, mourning his loss. It was reported that after the shooting, chaos broke out among the college students, as they ran from the event. Graphic photos and videos of the killing quickly began to circulate on social media, with the news of Kirk’s death spreading quickly. Soon after he was announced dead, it was reported that a “person of interest” was in custody, but it is believed that the shooter could still be at large, as the investigation remains ongoing.
Both the Democratic and Republican parties condemned the act of violence. Republican Gov. of Utah Spencer Cox referring to the fatal shooting as a “political assassination.” Democratic Gov. of California Gavin Newsom wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that “In the United States of America, we must reject political violence in EVERY form.”
