Smart boards. Poetry Slam. Robotics Club. Language Lab. WSPN. All are vital aspects of the Wayland High School community, and all are made possible by funding from the Wayland Public Schools Foundation. (WPSF).
WPSF was established in 1983 by Wayland parents who were concerned about school funding after the passage of Proposition 2.5, a law limiting annual increases in town taxes. The Foundation funds grants proposed by teachers for innovative programs and equipment not covered by the regular school budget.
Last spring, in honor of WPSF’s 25th year, Ms. Barber’s Intermediate Multimedia Class took on the challenge of capturing the Foundation’s impact on the Wayland community. Hours of footage had to be cut down to just 8 minutes. “There was plenty of good footage, and it took us about a month to cut everything down and pick out all the best stuff,” says Andy Gusev, a member of last year’s multimedia class. With editing and directing by Wayland parent, Joe Vitagliano, the DVD made its debut at WPSF’s “All that Glitters” 25th anniversary celebration on October 4th.
Narrated by a 5th grade storyteller Jackson Dianni, the 8 minute DVD sums up WPSF’s history and impact throughout the past 25 years. Featured are some of Wayland High School’s own teachers and students. To hear their words and music, watch the DVD here.
