The boys varsity soccer team’s Kicks for Cancer game against Westford Academy was rescheduled due to a high risk of the Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus (EEE). Areas in Massachusetts are currently at risk for EEE. As of Sept. 13, Wayland was ranked at moderate risk while Concord, where the game was set to take place, is rated at high risk according to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Boys varsity soccer head coach David Gavron received an email explaining that Concord was not allowing any night activities because of EEE. The game was originally scheduled to be held at Concord-Carlisle High School at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
According to Gavron, WHS’ Athletic Director Heath Rollins and Westford Academy’s Athletic director agreed to have the game hosted at Westford Academy on Sept. 28 at 1:30 p.m..
“Regardless of where we play, it is still a phenomenal event,” Gavron said. “It would have been nice to have the atmosphere that Concord-Carlisle provides for the game. I’m so proud of the boys for being a part of it,” Gavron said. “I rely and trust our athletic department and the town’s board of health to take care of the kids and staff.”
