On Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22, the Class of 2025 will showcase their months of hardwork and practice in this year’s Senior Show. The Senior Show is a decade old Wayland tradition designed to bring the class together and leave their last mark before graduation.
The show is completely run by students, with the directing, writing and acting processes all solely carried out by seniors. The show consists of a variety of crafted skits and dances choreographed by Window Dance Ensemble’s seniors that present an assortment of strengths from the graduating class. All seniors are welcome and encouraged to join the process, whether they are skilled in dance, acting or just want to enjoy creating something with their peers.
This year’s seniors began practicing in mid-January, with various students crafting scripts and assigning roles. While admin must approve of the scripts and concepts for the show, the writing process is completely up to the seniors.
“It’s a lot different than my usual rehearsal process because instead of having an adult work out all the details, it’s up to the kids to figure out how all of these different scenes and skits are going to come together,” senior and director Isabella Fuentes said.
While the writing process plays an important role, it is just the beginning of the preparation journey. For the last several weeks, the seniors have been rehearsing each week after school to practice their lines and choreography.
“It was a joint effort by everyone,” Senior Show emcee, Emma Alongi said. ” It was hard to get the process started, but once we got the ball rolling it was pretty easy.”
After receiving their roles, seniors paired up into their specific skit groups, rehearsing with their peers in their free time outside of school. The effort put in with these groups has not only strengthened existing bonds, but fostered new ones.
“It’s been a nice bonding experience that has allowed us to get to know each other more before we’re off across the world for college,” Fuentes said. “We all come from different types of groups with different interests so it’s so nice to see so many different groups come together.”
