“Say When” is a hard working band from Boston that is getting ready to embark on its seventh nation-wide tour. The band’s members are all about having a good time and putting their hearts and souls into each and every show. Most fans would agree they fulfill this mantra both on and off stage. Their rough sounding vocals and upbeat songs are similar to those of of Nickleback and Guster. Supported by a large fan base, Say When’s catchy riffs have a tendency to work their way into your head.
Their 2-month-old, 10 song untitled EP is the product of months of collaboration. Zack Starikov and Johnny Zaremba provide a whirlwind of lively guitar riffs that keep the energy flying high, while Max Latif adds intensely exhilarating vocals. Bassist Mike Marvuglio lights up the stage with his non- stop movement. Drummer Mark McCarthy holds the songs together with his upbeat playing, creating a constant foot tapping and head bobbing rhythm.
“The first time I heard them play, they were right after this really boring band, but when they got on and started to play, I couldn’t help but turn to my friend and say, ‘I can’t help but want to dance to this,’” said loyal 4-year fan, Courtney Miller of Natick.
Although “Say When” is unsigned, it has played alongside bigger and better known bands such as Sugarcult, Yellowcard, Brett Scallions (Fuel), as well as local favorites Lannen Fall and Baby Strange.
Say When has made numerous appearances on Fox 25 Morning News promoting its first album, I’m With The Band. Their song “The Fall” was chosen as the song of the week on radio stations WAAF and WBCN 104.1.
“A bad day at [a] 9 to 5 job is a good day on the road,” said a smiling Latif. “When we’re on the road, we’re getting pumped for our next show, and when we come home, we’re getting pumped to get on the road again.” There is no stopping this band as it spreads its exciting sound across the U.S.
When asked to sum up the band’s feelings on its progress thus far, Latif didn’t hesitate: “This is what we’re doing. This is what we were born to do and this is what we were meant to do. This is what we want to do for the rest of our lives.”
