The Wayland High School Class of 2025’s graduation is set to take place Saturday, June 7, at 6 p.m.. Graduation will take place on the high school turf and will last until 7:30 p.m.. Originally set to take place Friday evening, administrators rescheduled the ceremony on Friday morning. This decision was made due to new weather reports that are variable and indicate lightning and flash floods, a desire for a safe and disruption-free ceremony and a lack of feasible indoor space.
Graduation is the last of a series of class events that have taken place for the Class of 2025. On the seniors’ last day of school, May 30, there was a Senior Breakfast before the start of the school day. On June 3 and 4, seniors attended mandatory graduation rehearsals that took place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.. Also, on June 3, seniors attended Senior Awards Night held in the WHS auditorium. On Wednesday, June 4, seniors attended Class Night, a semi-formal dance held at Wedgewood Pines Country Club from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.. On Thursday evening, June 5, seniors attended the Senior Boat Cruise, where they wore the merchandise of the schools they plan to attend in the future.
Seniors are advised to arrive at the high school by 5 p.m. to prepare. Guests may arrive to find seating as early as 4:30 p.m.. During the ceremony, speeches will be given by members of WHS administration and members of the graduating class.
Advice to graduates from Assistant Principal Sean Gass: “I recommend wearing attire that is appropriate for the occasion, but as cool as possible, since the [graduation] robes heat up quickly and the sun is still out. Obviously, that changes if it’s cloudy, but you [still] probably want to be as cool as you can. Don’t go full beachwear, because your family will want to hang out with you and they will be a little dressed up, so when you unzip your robe and give grandma or grandpa a hug and take a picture, it’s good to look a little formal. When you’re decorating your cap if you choose to, remember that weight matters, and if you bedazzle too much, it might not stay on right, and it’s a huge pain to keep adjusting it. If you have a hairdo you care a lot about, a larger head or a heavy decoration, bring a few bobby pins. Hydrate before you walk, so bring a water bottle to the commons, but not onto the field.”
