Wayland High School students feel hard pressed to find places to spend time for fun in Wayland.
“Are there any places to hang out in Wayland? If so, I don’t know any of them,” said senior Alicia Winokur. “It would be nice if there were places to hang out, like if we had a cafe or something.”
Other students agree that places to simply “hang out” in Wayland are few and far between.
“There’s not really any place people go to hang out all the time,” said freshman Cole Elias.
In some cases, students consider destinations to be nonexistent.
“What current places to hang out?” asked sophomore Josh O’Neil.
However, with the new Town Center looming ahead in the future, students have high hopes. Restaurants, new shopping locations, and simply a place to go with friends are common trends among the wishes of students.
“I’d like to see more food places, like Panera. An ice cream place would be nice,” said sophomore Sarah Mitty.
The current shopping areas in Cochituate have sparse options for students to grab a bite to eat. Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts and Liberty’s are the few places students typically gravitate to.
Students actively notice the lack of things to do in Wayland, and many express opinions of frustration.
“The current places to hang out are pretty bad. The Town Building is inconsistently open for basketball,” said freshman Kurt Bonner.
In addition to broadening the options for food, Bonner hopes that the Town Center will provide recreational areas.
“There should be a basketball court there,” said Bonner.
As Wayland does not yet have a gathering place where people young and old can go to enjoy themselves, students welcome the Town Center with open arms.
