This year, with the additions of sophomore Brad Seferian, freshman Nick Memoli and coach David Pierce, the team has put an emphasis on winning races instead of teaching athletes how to sail.

“The success this year has been mostly from us not goofing off in practices and really working hard to use the time we have on the water,” sophomore Piper Wolff said.

“We now have better skippers and that has really helped us out a lot,” sailing team founder, junior Maddie Memoli, said in agreement with Wolff.

This past weekend, the team competed in a qualifying race against other top Massachusetts teams and finished in the top three, sending the team to the New England Fleet Racing Championships in Connecticut.

To qualify, teams must place first in their division. However, this week, the sailing team lost to Wellesley, dropping their record to 3-1 while Wellesley maintained a 4-0 record for the Division II lead.

“Hopefully, we will win our division and qualify for the team racing championships,” Maddie said.

“The team dynamics really help out. We are all really good friends and know how to work well with each other,” Wolff said.
