This Saturday, Pam’s Run is taking place at 10 a.m. at the Loker School in Wayland in memory of Pam Manikas Washek.
Pam’s Run was started to support Neighbor Brigade, an organization founded by Washek. Neighbor Brigade creates networks of local community-based volunteers who provide immediate services for neighbors in need. These services include delivering meals to homes, helping maintain homes and providing transportation to medical appointments.
This is the first year the race is happening. There are two courses, a five mile and a three mile route. Both of these tracks start and finish at Loker.
Money raised by the teams running, as well as other donations, will all go toward supporting Neighbor Brigade.
“I’m really glad that we can honor her with the run and continue the plans that she started,” sophomore Jessica Washek, daughter of Pam Washek, said.
After the race, a family friendly event will be hosted with food and live music. Awards ranging from $50 to $200 will also be given out to the top three male and female runners.
“It means a lot to have my friends running and volunteering at the race and to see that so many people want to be involved in remembering my mom and supporting Neighbor Brigade,” Washek said.
