Former Junior Varsity tennis coach Philip Odipo left at the end of last year’s season, leaving the job open. When Cobb heard the program needed a new coach, he was interested.
Cobb has had prior experience as a tennis coach, being head coach of girls Varsity tennis at Arlington Catholic High School last year. He has also coached other sports teams at Wayland as well.
“I’ve coached the freshman football team last fall, and I’m going to be the defensive coordinator for them next year. I was also the JV basketball coach this past season along with Varsity assistant coach.” Cobb said.
Cobb enjoys the game of tennis and likes the aspect of self-dependence in the sport.
“From prior experience with coaching, I think sports like football or basketball are very high-intensity team sports, while tennis is very laid back and individualistic. I like the one-on-one sense of it, [which] helps me get to know the players too,” Cobb said.
Cobb’s only regret about coaching is having to watch what he eats.
“My least favorite part about coaching would be the fact that I eat too much food at the matches. I have to start watching my diet.”
