Librarian Pam Miller is not only a friendly face in the Library Media Center, but she is also a huge sports fan on the athletic fields. Miller attends one to two games per week, although she used to attend many more when she lived in Wayland. She tries to go to as many games as she can. Miller also reads about teams in the newspaper and always looks to find out how a game went.

“I go for the people [not for a specific sport],” Miller said. “I love sports, all of them. I am a big Red Sox and Patriots fan; I probably understand football the most.”

Miller was a cheerleading coach for 27 years, so she has watched a lot of football and basketball.

“It amazes me how much effort you guys can put into your academics and get good grades,” Miller said. “But then you go out on the field and work so hard and excel in sports. I’m just happy to see your success. I know I couldn’t do it. It’s wonderful to see what you can do.”

Miller is competitive and wants Wayland to win. She loves to see her students have great games and play well.

“The best part of it is to see the kids succeed… I want you to win, I want us to win,” Miller said.

“I think she’s very committed. She seems pretty busy, so it must be tough for her to go to so many games,” junior Nick Fay said. “It’s very impressive and I really appreciate the support.”

Senior soccer player and wrestler Jakob Warner appreciates Mrs. Miller’s support as well.

“It’s really nice to see how teachers in the community care about sports and aren’t just teachers, they are more than that. They are people too,” Warner said. “It felt really cool to have her come to my games and care about Wayland athletics. It was also really fun to check in with her the next day about the games, she is always really supportive.”

“It’s fun, and it’s Wayland. It is a big part of [the student’s] lives, and something that I can share,” Miller said.
