Warrior Weekly: Saquon Barkley new Heisman favorite
September 28, 2017
Duncan’s College Football Top 4 – Week 4
1. Alabama Crimson Tide
Some thought that the Vanderbilt Commodores had a chance to upset Nick Saban in Nashville. They were wrong. ‘Bama proved that Vandy didn’t belong on the same field as them, winning 59-0.
2. Clemson Tigers
They struggled to put away Boston College (tied 7-7 going into the 4th quarter), but steamrolled the Eagles in the final 15 minutes, winning 34-7. Last week was one where many top teams barely survived against unranked teams, so Clemson’s performance looks a little bit better taking that into account.
3. Oklahoma Sooners
They were in a dogfight at Baylor for three quarters, but Baker Mayfield proved once again that he is unstoppable through the air. This offense has yet to be slowed down in 2017.
4. Penn State Nittany Lions
Although it took them until the very last play to put away a tough Iowa team on the road, I was impressed by Penn State’s victory. One mark of a championship caliber team is the ability to find a way to win close games when you’re not playing your best. That’s exactly what they did.
Heisman Watch:
1: Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State – 853 total yards (9.6 yards per touch), 6 TDs
2: Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma – 1,329 yards, 13 TDs, 0 INTs, 75.2% completion
3: Sam Darnold, QB, Southern California – 1,225 yards, 9 TDs, 7 INTs, 67.1% completion
Game of the Week: (2) Clemson vs. (12) Virginia Tech – 8:00 PM ET – ABC
A trip to Blacksburg will prove to be another tough test for the Tigers. Expect this to be a low-scoring, defensive battle. Virginia Tech will hang around, but once again, Clemson will find a way to win.
Prediction: Clemson 23, Virginia Tech 13
