Remembering Weston’s Ash Baird
October 3, 2018
This Thursday, Oct. 4, the girls’ varsity soccer team will be squaring off against the Weston Wildcats. However, this game is bigger than just soccer. The Warriors will be wearing armbands to honor the memory of Ash Baird, a Weston soccer player who died of cancer in April 2018.
“Every team in the DCL Small has been doing it,” senior captain Abby Mitty said. “Every team is decorating [the bands] in a different way to show support for the Weston community and team.”
This past Saturday at the annual Kicks for Cancer fundraiser, the Acton-Boxborough, Concord-Carlisle, Lincoln-Sudbury and Bedford girls’ soccer teams formed a circle around the Weston team, and a tribute written by Weston girls’ soccer coach John Power was read over the public address.
“The Weston coach is really focused on having a positive season and recovering from her death,” Mitty said.
The Wildcats (1-5-1) will face the Warriors (4-3-1) at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
