Fine Arts Department Head Susan Memoli and the rest of WHS’ music staff plan to restart an old tradition of an in-school winter concert. The performance will be held during third block on Friday, Dec. 21.

Teachers will have the option of bringing their classes to the theater to enjoy some musical fun. Since the auditorium isn’t big enough for the entire school, the first classes to sign up will be the ones to attend.

Normally, music teachers at WHS decide to not perform during school hours because of the craziness surrounding the month of December, which usually brings many different performances that occur periodically throughout the month. For years, Memoli has held the desire to deliver a concert to the school. She finally decided that this year was the best time to do it.

“[This concert will] hopefully start a new tradition,” Memoli said.

The honors choir, wind ensemble and the honors orchestra will take the stage for fifteen minutes each during Friday’s concert. The orchestra will play “Winter Op. 8, No. 4” from Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi, the Lindsey Stirling version of “Celtic Carol” by O’Loughlin, the Johannes Brahms version of “Variations on a Theme of Haydn” by Leidig and “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson.

“It’s a good opportunity for people to see what we do,” Memoli said.
