In the weekly series, “In Case You Missed It,” News Editor Selena Liu summarizes stories from the past week with links to the corresponding WSPN article.
News:
WSPN’s Tina Su produced an article on the Wayside Gift Drive. Co-Editor-in-Chief Nadya Chase and WSPN’s Aimee Smith broke down the national drug shortage and local pharmacy issues.
Meanwhile, Staff Reporters Annika Martins and Tasha Janoff wrote about Wayland’s new grass field. WSPN’s Chloe Zilembo produced an article on therapy dogs at WHS.
Features:
Martins and Janoff wrote about WHS’s Lend a Paw club. Staff Reporter Sophia Verma produced an article on WHS’s Class of 2024’s college decision account.
Sports:
Zilembo wrote about Erin Matson bringing field hockey and women’s sports to center stage.
“Now, not only is Matson bringing positive attention to field hockey, but also to women’s sports in general, as female athletes are often overlooked and under-appreciated around the world,” Zilembo wrote. “Women’s sports aren’t nearly as prominent as men’s sports, as only 15% of sports media coverage is dedicated to covering them.”
Opinion:
Co-Editor-in-Chief Talia Macchi and Chase shared a letter from the editors to address recent community response to the Israel-Hamas War coverage.
“As the Co-Editors-in-Chief of the Wayland Student Press Network, we would like to address the community response to our recent coverage of the Israel-Hamas war,” Macchi and Chase wrote. “Since Oct. 7, WSPN has published opinion pieces from both the pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian perspectives in an effort to represent the different student viewpoints at Wayland High School. Both articles have sparked a strong community reaction, including demands for the articles to be taken down.”
A&E:
Staff Reporter Melina Barris produced a Winter Wonderland crossword. WSPN’s Mischa Lee shared fashion trends she was tired of.
Meanwhile, WSPN’s Hallie Luo and Su reviewed Tavern in the Square. WSPN’s Jeffery Zhang and Staff Reporter Alex Evangelista shared men’s winter fashion tips.
Podcast:
Lee and Staff Reporters Jessi Dretler and Elyssa Grillo shared their favorite Christmas movies. Meanwhile, Lee spotlighted Reva Datar’s experience as the only girl on the wrestling team.
