She is a two-time captain of the cross country team, as well as a captain of both the indoor track and the tennis teams at WHS. She is also her class's vice president. On Oct. 3, the auto body shop in the Cochituate Plaza caught on fire, causing significant smoke damage to Liberty’s. “We lost our lives,” owner Shery Maksimous said. “The business is like our home [since] we’re not from here. My husband and I have fought to get a good life for us and our four kids. When [the fire] started, it [hurt us because] our whole family’s [sacrifices] were in the store. My kids grew up there.”

On Saturday, Oct. 28, Wayland High School’s Class of 2024 will participate in the annual Progressive Dinner, in which students will commute between three different houses for different parts of the meal: appetizers, the main course and dessert. “Progressive Dinner is an excellent opportunity to bring all of the students in our grade together,” senior class treasurer Nora Edouarzin said. “We’ve been planning this event for a long time and have put in a lot of time, so we hope it will turn out really well.”

WHS French students arrive at Le Pont du Gard, an ancient Roman aqueduct. I think [the students] learned a lot about the architecture and the Roman influence in the south of France, French teacher Sara Langelier said. We also visited a couple of museums and got to learn about some artists like Chagall and Matisse. I think they also learned about French customs and small cultural differences.

On Monday, May 22, Tuesday, May 23, Friday, May 26, Wednesday, May 31 and Monday, June 5, Wayland High School juniors in the Honors Spanish 4 class visited Loker Elementary School’s Spanish Immersion program. “It was so cool seeing such young kids being very fluent in a completely different language,” junior Annika Martins said. “Their accents were very natural and everything came so fluently to them. They never stuttered when they spoke.”
